Dubai Sky Diving

Skydiving is without a doubt an extreme thing to consider for most people but if you’re like me, fear is just the beginning and thrilling experiences are life changing, so let’s relive my first sky diving experience in Dubai together

The organization

In front of the skyscrapers in Dubai Marina, there is a freefall platform, a well-equipped hangar called Sky Dive Dubai. The first impression you get when you’re inside is that these people are very well organized. The crew are friendly and multicultural which I liked a lot. By the way the person at the desk was Moroccan like me!
My session was already booked so they chose my monitor that will do the tandem jump with me. His name was Matt and he was very friendly

Get ready

There are two types of preparation they have you covered before flying: psychological and equipment wise. No wonder since you will jump off a plane! So while they make you wear the proper equipment they lift your spirit with encouragement so that you don’t panic. Off course since you decided to do it then it’s assumed that you have prepared yourself but in my opinion, anything not handled correctly can make you change your mind, by the way some people change their mind at the door just before the jump

Let’s go

Our time has come and it’s time to take off with a dozen of other divers. After a few minutes on the plane, we were at an altitude of 4,000 meters, far away from the ground, where the scenery below looked like mere pictures to the point that it this wasn’t the most fearful moment for me, especially that along the flight you get distracted by the cameraman interacting with you while filming. Yes you get filmed from the preparation to the landing. The fear start kicking off a little bit when the others start to jump off the plane and you know that your turn is approaching
I will always remember what Matt told me after giving some instructions before the jump: “I will ask you one thing…is that to trust me”. Of course he should say it since most of the doubts and the “what ifs” appear in that exact moment

The shock

When stepping out of the plane, unlike what many people might think, it's not exactly pure fear that you experience here, rather a mix of extreme sensations that keep you just in shock. In my case, the only response I could do is just to smile. Why? From 0 km/h to over 200 km/h in an instant! You don't understand what's happening! You want to hold on to something! Your heartbeat and breathing accelerate! You wonder what to do or think about! Is there time for fear? Or is this extreme fear?!
After a few seconds, you begin to enjoy the ride, the cameraman follows you along the way asking for thumbs up from time to time, and above all, you enjoy the magnificent view of Dubai's Palm Jumeirah!

Pure joy

After one minute of freefall, the main parachute deploys. Now, we are moving at 5 meters per second, 5 minutes of absolute calm, contemplation and pure joy in that state!

Believe me, the first thing you say when your feet touch the ground is, "I have to do that again!" The feeling of flying is so strong that it stays with you the next day, even if your feet are on the ground
Is it self-confidence? A sense of accomplishment? Overcoming fear? Or could it be all at once? I don't know how to describe this feeling, but I invite you to experience it at least once in your life. Believe me, you will become a different person
