Inside the Code: four filmed interviews as CTO of Digiton

Digiton made Inside the Code as a short documentary series about its own engineering: a camera in the office, one question an episode, and the developers answering it in their own words rather than in marketing copy. I took part as the company’s Chief Technology Officer, the role described in more detail on About.

Each film opens on a developer answering first and then comes back to me — the practitioner’s view, then the one accountable for the standard behind it. They are spoken in Arabic, as the rest of the work on this page is, and carry French subtitles burned into the picture.

What each interview covers

• From an idea to a finished project — the exchanges, trials, adjustments and rebuilds a project passes through before anyone outside the team sees it.

• Explaining a technical constraint to a client — why the difficult part is rarely the engineering, and how to describe a limit without either hiding it or hiding behind it.

• What sits behind a site worth having — the analysis and testing that decide whether a site turns out fast, findable and usable, and why none of it is visible in the finished thing.

• Holding a delivery date when something breaks — prioritising against the client’s urgency rather than the order the backlog happens to be in, without paying for the date in quality.
