I am Mehdi Mekouar — Senior Laravel and Vue JS developer, based in Marrakech. 10+ years of technical experience and 30+ projects delivered across education, healthcare, associations and e-commerce.

I take a project from the first scoping call to the server it runs on and the maintenance that follows: the data model, the interface, the admin panel that the staff actually work in, the deployment and the handover. Most of it is Laravel, with Livewire or Vue JS on the front, Filament where an admin panel earns its keep, and Capacitor when the same codebase has to reach iOS and Android as well as the web.

The parts a project usually has to go looking for elsewhere sit in the same pair of hands: deployment and Linux hosting, REST APIs for the mobile app that comes later, multilingual and RTL interfaces including Arabic, SEO planned before launch rather than retrofitted, and AI integration where it does real work.

I have also run the other side of it. As a CTO I owned architecture, testing standards, code review and CI/CD, and coached a team through all four; before that I was the developer and the project manager on the same projects. Working with me is one person to deal with and still a scoped, staged, documented build.

I am based in Marrakech, Morocco. Remote for clients in France, the United States and worldwide, on site or hybrid in Morocco. I work in English, French and Arabic. Available for full-time roles, day-rate contracts and fixed-price projects.

    Own products

    Building and shipping my own products, and open to client work and to roles alongside them. Quran8 is a Quran reading and listening app organised by the thumun rather than by chapter and covering four riwayat, with the printed page itself as the reading surface: Laravel and Vue JS on the web, Capacitor for the mobile builds, Firebase and PayPal behind them, and a Python computer-vision pass that located every verse on every page. Walk is an Android step counter built on Vue 3 and TypeScript over a Kotlin foreground service, with backup and restore, push notifications and Play in-app updates, over a Laravel API that handles device authentication, push and donations; it is signed, on the Play Console and in closed testing.

  2. Dec 2024 – Feb 2026 · Fez, Morocco

    Architecture, standards and the team at a software company delivering client projects on a monthly cadence. I rebuilt the internal starter kit and moved deployment onto GitHub Actions, introduced structured workflows, testing standards and code review and coached a team of four to six developers through them, designed the shared-package hosting architecture the company's projects run on, and led the reusable e-learning platform most of its client work is now built from.

    Hosting inode usage down 40%, deferring a hosting upgrade by years. Team throughput raised to two or three completed projects a month.

  3. Jan 2022 – May 2024 · Marrakech, Morocco

    Full Stack Developer & Project Manager

    Ihyae Foundation

    Developer and project manager for a foundation that publishes and teaches at scale. I built its official website and an e-commerce platform with a full sales funnel for book distribution, and the educational tools behind the online programme — classes, users, transactions. I automated the operations around it with Make.com: syncing enrolments into Google Contacts, archiving subscriptions into spreadsheets, and sending the WhatsApp follow-up sequences — work that had been manual and did not scale past a few hundred students. I also ran the SEO and the ad campaigns, and produced the video and marketing content that grew the audience for it.

    300+ paying students enrolled across 15+ online classrooms in the first three months after launch.

    Ten years in sales and team management. I led meetings and prospecting, spoke at the company's major events, designed multi-platform campaigns across Facebook, WhatsApp and email, and built the training material and video presentations the team was developed on.

    Led a 500+ person sales organisation through a leadership layer of 10, sustaining an average of $35,000 in monthly sales for ten consecutive years and sat on the company's advisory board contributing to strategic decisions. Not development work — it is where the client-facing and coaching half of the job was learned.

    Client work under my own name, alongside the technical job at the medical school. PHP, MySQL and JavaScript written by hand, and WordPress where a client needed to edit their own site. A content management system built from scratch, member areas and registration for a scientific society, an association site and a booking engine. This is where the development half of this page starts.

    Eight years of client work, one last commission in 2013, and four more years of development since returning to it in 2022 — the arithmetic behind the 10+ years at the top of this page, and the reason it is not counted from 2004.

    Medicine and Pharmacy College of Marrakech

    The technical side of a medical school. I produced educational medical documentaries and built the intranet staff used for internal communication and event management, trained doctors on Adobe and Microsoft tools, standardised student data so it could be integrated across systems, and oversaw the maintenance of medical and lab equipment along with the acquisitions behind it.

    Not a development role, but it kept turning into one: the staff intranet, built in 2008, came out of the freelance practice already running alongside it.
